Soil Testing

Agricultural fertility and contaminated-land assessment – nutrients, heavy metals and organics.

Environmental Monitoring

About Soil Testing

Soil is tested for two very different purposes — agricultural fertility and contaminated-land assessment — and CVR Labs covers both. For fertility we measure pH, electrical conductivity, organic carbon, available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, cation exchange capacity and micronutrients, giving farmers and agronomists a basis for balanced fertiliser recommendations.

For environmental and construction projects we assess heavy metals, the soil texture and the contamination indicators relevant to land use and disposal, including TCLP where waste classification is in question. Reporting is matched to the purpose — a soil-health card format for agriculture, or a contamination assessment formatted for environmental clearance and remediation planning.

What we analyse under Soil Testing

The parameter groups below are drawn from this service's own accredited scope; the full searchable list follows.

Fertility is a balance, not a guess

pH, organic carbon and available N-P-K and micronutrients set the right fertiliser dose — over- and under-application both cost yield.

Contaminated land carries liability

Heavy metals and organics in soil constrain land use and disposal; assessment is needed for clearance and remediation.

CEC and texture govern behaviour

Cation exchange capacity and texture determine how a soil holds nutrients and contaminants — fundamental to both uses.

Where more than one standard applies, the appropriate method is selected for each sample and regulatory requirement. Fertility and soil-physical parameters follow the IS 2720 series and APHA wet-chemistry methods; heavy metals are run by ICP-MS and organics (pesticides, PCBs, PAHs, VOCs) by GC-MS/MS under validated in-house CVR SOPs within the accredited scope.

FAQ

Soil Testing — frequently asked questions

Is Soil Testing NABL-accredited at CVR Labs?
Yes. Soil Testing is performed under CVR Labs' NABL ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation (Cert. NABLT0626TN18226) at our Chennai laboratory, with traceable, audit-ready reports accepted for compliance and submission.
Do you test soil for agricultural fertility?
Yes. We measure pH, EC, organic carbon, available nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, CEC and micronutrients to support balanced fertiliser recommendations.
Can you assess contaminated land?
Yes. Heavy metals, organics, soil texture and TCLP leachate (where waste classification applies) are tested for environmental clearance and remediation planning.
What sample is needed for soil testing?
Typically around 1 kg of representative soil; for fertility, composite sampling across the plot is recommended, and we advise on correct sampling.
What samples do you accept for Soil Testing?
We routinely handle Agricultural soil, contaminated land, sediments. Share your exact sample type and target standard and our technical team will confirm the required quantity, method and turnaround.
What parameters are included in Soil Testing?
The Soil Testing panel covers 147 accredited parameters such as Ammonia, Ammonical Nitrogen, Available Nitrogen as N, Available Phosphorous and Available Potassium as K. The full searchable list is on this page — tell us your target and we'll map the right sub-panel for your sample.
