Used / Waste Oil Testing
Used-oil characterisation – metals, PCBs, flash point and recyclability per Hazardous Waste Rules.
About Used / Waste Oil Testing
Used and waste oil is a regulated hazardous waste, and whether it can be recycled, reprocessed or must be incinerated depends on its characterisation. CVR Labs tests used lubricating oil, waste oil and transformer oil for heavy metals, total halogens and PCBs, flash point, water and sediment content and the parameters that define recyclability under the Hazardous and Other Wastes Rules.
PCB content is the critical gate for transformer and older oils — above the threshold the oil is treated as PCB waste with strict handling. Reports give recyclers, generators and registered re-refiners the documented basis to classify a batch and route it lawfully.

Signature tests under Used / Waste Oil Testing

What we analyse under Used / Waste Oil Testing
The parameter groups below are drawn from this service's own accredited scope; the full searchable list follows.
Total halogens gate recyclability
High chlorine/halogen content signals chlorinated solvents or PCB contamination — the key screen before oil can be re-refined.
Recyclability is a spec, not a guess
Flash point, halogens, water and sediment define whether waste oil can be re-refined or must be destroyed.
Used oil is regulated waste
Under the Hazardous Waste Rules, generators must characterise used oil to document lawful recycling or disposal.

How Used / Waste Oil Testing is tested
Reference methods applied
Where more than one standard applies, the appropriate method is selected for each sample and regulatory requirement. The physico-chemical oil parameters follow the relevant ASTM D-series test methods; total halogens and gross calorific value run to validated in-house CVR SOPs, all within the accredited scope.
